Three Rivers chairman's charity walk

Posted by news desk in Local News, 10th June 2008, 4:15pm

Following in the footsteps of the Roman Legions, chairman of Three Rivers District Council Councillor Chris Lloyd covered 84 miles of Hadrian's Wall (pictured) in a gruelling three days to raise cash for charity.

Joined by a group of friends from his workplace T-Mobile UK, Cllr Lloyd walked the famous trail from coast to coast between Newcastle and Carlisle to raise over £2500 for charity; to be divided between the Croxley Green Scouts, the Amos Trust for street children in South Africa and the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre, which provides support and information for people affected by cancer.

Councillor Lloyd said: "It was a tough three days, but worth it to know the money we raised is going to three very worthwhile causes. We would like to thank Smith Consulting Limited (Newcastle), Palmers Skoda Garage (Watford) and Lifesure (Bedford) for sponsoring our adventure and T-Mobile UK for promising to match the funding raised."

Councillor Lloyd is now aiming to raise £5000 for his three chosen charities. So far the total raised stands at £3200, so sponsorship is still needed to provide much-needed support for the Amos Trust, Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre and the Croxley Green scouts.

Residents and businesses can sponsor Councillor Lloyd by emailing chris.lloyd@threerivers.gov.uk or by phoning 01923 231 297.
